Bed Time and Toddler Triumph (sort of)

It's nearly bedtime and YES - the television is on!  Bad Mommy! Ok - now that my bad parenting is out in the open let's get to the main point of this post.

I have a love/hate relationship with bedtime. I love that once the kids are sound asleep I'll have a couple of hours to myself (selfish I know). I hate the stress that surrounds bedtime.

In summary, I shout tirelessly, "girls, upstairs and in the bath please" until I their complete disregard annoys me and I carry at least one of them, up the stairs, against their will, crying. Once in the bath, they refuse to get out, and I lift at least one of them out, against their will, crying. I then get to chase them around the house until they let me dry them off and of course one of them will probably cry. Sounds like fun right?

A dresses herself. Fine. I can deal with it. C thinks she can dress herself and at 2 constantly shouts her mantra at me, "I do it all by myself!" (there is an exclamation point there because she always shouts it). I've learned to pick my battles with the child and tonight it took her 45 minutes before she asked for my help. She nearly did it. Well done.

As annoying as it is, I have to applaud the determination and strong will of toddlers. They will lose it eventually.
